Maybe I’m late to the party, but apparently you can create LEGO projects and if you get enough followers they will turn it into a LEGO kit you can buy! I used to love LEGOs as a kid. They were easily my favorite toy and I kind of miss them.

And now I collect model cars, so a LEGO model car would be a pretty awesome edition to my collection! Its not my project, but wow it looks cool. So I just created a LEGO account and showed my support. No cash is needed. Its just simply LEGO trying to determine which projects make sense to produce. Take a look.

If I’m not mistaken, you can one-off special-order stuff built in LEGO Digital Designer as well, it just costs a hell of a lot more than if you convince LEGO to build it for regular sale. I think it even auto-generates building instructions.

Seems like I remember reading that they’re phasing that out, unfortunately.

Man, I hope it makes it. The boxiness of the E30 makes it perfect for Lego adaptation; it’d work almost as well as the original Mini set:

They stopped doing that a while back. I wish they still did that.

Hey, your name came up in a conversation I had this week. I was talking to some guy who works at ZF who said he was helping with an e30 engine swap that was going on in your garage or something like that. Anyways, now you know!

The second best thing, then, since the older Digital Designer still has all the brick codes, would be to figure out a way to tally up which sets had the ones you needed.

Last I recall, the per-brick cost was between .10 and .20 a brick in most sets. Expensive, but hasn’t gone up that much since the late 90s. Now, I think the per-brick cost for Digital Designer kits was way, way higher than that, but I can’t be sure.

Thanks! After my race at the Nurburgring last year I took a year off and traveled and partied and did things like hang out at Oneil Rally School and our camp in Maine. But its time to start having fun with cars again. New builds, new races, a lot more video and tons of more fun. I’m also writing a lot more. Mostly on Build Race Party, but I’m sharing the cooler articles hear on Jalopnik because its my favorite website and where are all the good cars stories can be found.
